Quito, Equateur 27-31/07

Hola!

San Francisco de Quito, nom officiel mais connue sous le nom de Quito, est la capitale de l´Equateur. Le Grand Quito du District métropolitain comptait environ 2,1 millions d'habitants en 2007 et continue de s'accroître à un rythme rapide.

La ville s'étend du nord au sud sur 20 km de longueur, à une altitude de 2 850 m. Son nom vient des tribus Quitus qui précédèrent les Caras. Quito signifie centre du monde : centre Qui, du monde to. Elle fut officiellement fondée le 6 decembre 1534 par le conquistador espagnol Sebastien de Belalcazar.

Au sud se trouve le centre colonial historique, un point de passage obligé pour tous les touristes. L´Unesco a d'ailleurs déclaré Quito Patrimoine de l'Humanité en 1978 pour son architecture coloniale.

Après cette petite parenthèse historique, voici le récit de notre séjour a Quito...

Une fois de plus, Gonzalo avait décidé d´utiliser ses points Starwood pour nous offrir un peu de confort... quelle surprise en arrivant a l´hotel, le personnel nous avait attribué une Suite!!!
Cuisine équipée, lave vaisselle, machine a laver, seche linge, 1 salon avec bureau, téle gigantesque, 2 SDBs, 1 chambre avec un king bed et une autre énorme télé, je ne vous parle pas de la vue sur Quito du 11eme étage!!

Nous étions tout simplement "fous".... de vrais gamins a courir partout pour apprécier le coté super fonctionnel de notre Suite! Nous avons donc profité a fond de l´hotel avec la gym, Jaccuzi et les bains Turques ainsi que de notre suite en cuisinant nos prorpres repas, en préparant nos propres petits déjeuners, cafés, thés et meme jus de fruis frais car la Suite était équipée d´un mixer, SVP!

Nous avons dédié 2 jours a Quito, une journée a visiter le charmant et impressionnant centre historique et une journée dans la partie plus moderne de la ville. Le reste du temps nous avons profité de cette courte période de luxe!!

We had a real lovely stay in Quito, capital of Ecuador...

Gonzalo used his Starwood points and booked 4 nights in the Sheraton, what a surprise when we got there and got "escorted" to our Suite!! We could not believe it! Basically we had an entire flat just for us! 2 bathrooms, 1 kitchen fully equiped with washing machine, dryer, dishwasher, 1 living room with a huge TV, an amazing bedroom with another huge TV... and the View!! Huge windows...

We just got mad! What a threat! We went shopping straight away and bought groceries to be able to cook our own food, make our own tea and coffee, our own fruit juice ( we had a mixer!), it was so enjoyable to be able to do things ourselves, a nice change!

We also enjoyed the hotel´s facilities and visited the gym quite often, and also the jaccuzi and the steam room!

We spent 2 days visiting charming Quito, 1 day in the historic centre and the second day in the "Newtown", a much more modern and business part of the city. The historic part is definately the most interesting and if you are a big fan of architecture, that´s your place!

But, sadly, I have to admit that the highlight of our stay in charming Quito was our Suite, yeah, that can sound ...sad... but after so long staying in cheapies, we really really appreciated!
